Tanzwut:

Tanzwut was definitely one of this year's must see bands along with their other project Corvus Corax.

While Corvux Corax maintain a strict regimen of traditional instruments and sounds, Tanzwut blends the use of the aforementioned traditional instruments with the modern technology of keyboards, samples, loops, electric guitars and modern rock song structure.

The sound is intense to say the least and for many years now has maintained it's status as one of my top five bands of all time.

The energy with which they deliver the blend of bag pipes and guitar is awesome and it is insanely hard to sit still while listening to it (which is fitting as I have heard their name translated as "possessed to dance" or "anger dance" or being so filled with uncontrollable energy that you have no choice but to dance, to paraphrase.)

We were fortunate to catch them on stage with Umbra et Imago for the "Weinst Du" collaborative single release two years prior here at the Wave Gotik Treffen but now we finally got to see them perform their own material.

Their third album had just come out and so we were treated to songs off of every album, but I especially noticed the new songs, as they had definitely done some positive experimentation with different styles and it worked great live.

The guitarists, came out with mechanical apparatus on their heads which had beams of light emitting as if alien or robot eyes projecting their scanning rays through the fog. Their costumes were illuminated with blue neon strips giving a very cyber feel.

The two drummers were hidden in the far back behind layers of fog. The two bag-pipers moved back and forth from the top tier between the drummers down to the front where the guitarists stood on either side of the stage.

Teufel stood front and center, ominously lit from below in an appropriate red glow. His voice a deep sinister below very strong and effective in his native German.

These guys definitely have the power and presence to stand up to the likes of Rammstein and other international hits and really deserve a vehicle to bring them to the world market. They are awesome.
