Schock:

I had only encountered Schock due to the roster listing from the WGT website. Having done some research to make sure I wasn't missing out on awesome bands yet to be discovered, I downloaded a few tracks via the internet and liked Schock enough to go hunt down material on CD. I could only find the Von Dir single but with several tracks produced by Mozart of Umbra et Imago fame, I had a good feeling about the disc. After acquainting myself with the all too short EP, I knew I would like to see Schock live if the schedule permitted and thankfully it did.

Schock took the stage with two guitarists and a drummer as well as Schock himself, soon going shirtless and wearing sunglasses. He immediately broke into heavy, fast-paced guitar-driven tracks. The two Mozart produced songs were pretty heavy but the Von Dir song itself was pretty melodic and slower so it was good to hear more of the newer material which was not as slow and had a harsher edge.

He did a couple of the songs I knew including Von Dir but the true stand-out songs of the concert were "Gott Mensch" and "Inferno". Immediately after the show I tracked down the full-length and these two songs remain my favorites.

I felt Schock was very animated, and had great facial expressions that enhanced the lyrical delivery. He flailed his long locks around as he crooned to the enthusiastic crowd while the guitarists chugged away on their axes, it was good. I feel Schock borders on that pop-star that loves himself which is the only negative but his actual talent and presence backed up his attitude and won me over.

I especially like to listen to the above mentioned songs "Inferno" being my favorite as the software I work on to create feature film special effects is called "Inferno" and sometimes I go by the handle Infernal Operator so this is a good theme song for me in many ways.
