Mastodon Live at The Palladium Los Angeles, CA October 10th, 2026 Review and photos by Travis Baumann Mastodon have been around for over 26 years and are one of the more well-known bands that I have covered, so little introduction is needed for the Grammy-winning Atlantian metalheads. Despite being into Mastodon for nearly two decades, this was my first live experience, and it certainly did not disappoint. Obviously, there have been some serious changes in the band, with their first lineup change in their history taking place last year with the exit of Brent Hinds, who then tragically passed away in a motorcycle accident five months after having left his long-time bandmates. Despite this setback, what might have been a permanent roadblock for some bands, has only seen Mastodon rise once more with resilience and passion, adding new full-time members as well as releasing a new record, Marrow Deep. Mastodon's current roster is still the core trio: Brann Dailor on drums as well as lead vocals, Troy Sanders on bass and lead vocals, and Bill Keliher on rhythm guitar and backing vocals. Newcomers joining them are João Nogueira on keyboards and Nick Johnston on lead guitar and backing vocals. Partway through the set, they welcomed John Dyer Baizley of Baroness, who played the remainder of the show, offering both guitar and vocals to the mix - which really added to the massive power coming from the stage. At one point, you had all five men contributing vocals together, which was impressive to see and hear. They played a whopping eighteen song set with no break for encore. Marrow Deep was given a spotlight contributing five of those tracks, and every other album got some representation with the notable exception of Once More 'Round the Sun. Large screens behind the band and forming the drum riser played trippy psychedelic imagery that constantly cycled through the various artistic styles that have graced their album covers and merch over the years. At the end of the show, Brann emerged to speak to the audience about how grateful all of Mastodon were that the fans have stuck with them through the highs and lows and that they are still coming out in force to support and enjoy the music. It was obvious from both Brann's words at the end, as well Troy's throughout the show, how much they love making and performing music together. It was an amazing performance, and I am really glad that I finally got myself out to one of their shows.
