Igorrr Live at The Novo Theater in Los Angeles, CA 10/04/2026

Igorrr not only continues to raise the bar with their album releases, but their live performances have also grown in depth and intensity. At this point, this is an insane metal opera, not a normal concert. The lead "players" enter and exit the stage between parts, at times donning completely new attire and adornments to further cement the visual storytelling of this bombastic, dynamic world.

Focused around French mastermind composer, Gautier Serre (aka Igorrr himself), he switches gears constantly during the set, moving from electronics to guitar to percussion and back.

Having mutated into a full-fledge performance troupe, he brings with him extreme vocalist extraordinaire, JB Le Bail, mezzo-soprano vocalist Gerda Iguchi, Martyn Clément on guitar, and Rémi Serafino on drums.

For those who have not encountered Igorrr before, they are a bewildering experiment in controlled chaos, bringing influences from black metal, opera, breakbeats, trip-hop and classical baroque, with glitch-electronics. Sometimes all of these styles are featured in a single song.

The tour was named after their latest album, Amen which made up nearly half of the setlist tonight, but they gave equal time to the previous masterpiece Spirituality and Distortion, and worked in a trio of songs from Savage Sinusoid as well.

For "Blastbeat Falafel," their tour mate's bandleader Trey Spruance (of Secret Chiefs, Mr. Bungle fame), joined them on stage, giving us a trio of masterful guitar players going full-on ape-shit and having a great time while doing it.

An Igorrr performance is unlike any other show, and even a brilliantly written description does not do them justice. With the two singers taking on different characters throughout the various songs, it sweeps you into the opera-esque staging, and the level of musicianship is something to behold.
