Das Ich Live at Das Bunker Los Angeles, CA May 8th, 2026 Review and photos by Travis Baumann Das Ich are marking their 37th year with a special, and billed as final, Los Angeles show. The duo have been a predominant force on the gothic-industrial scene, having paved an entirely new sub-genre at the time of their inception. Avante‑garde, confrontational, theatrical, and unapologetically extreme, their art reflects their view of society and they are very vocal about the global situation, both in their lyrics but also via interactions with their audience. The tour revolves around their first (and potentially last) studio output in nearly two decades, a project that feels both like a culmination and a farewell. Fanal represents a last cathartic stand with tracks such as the set opener, "Lazarus" as well as "Brutus" giving live voice to the new material. Still, most of the night was a descent into the twisted corridors of nostalgia. They touched upon all of their major releases over the eras, perhaps with their side project with Atrocity notably absent, they gave all of their long-time fans a morsel to satisfy the appetite. A standout moment came when Debra from Diva Destruction joined them onstage—first for a cover of one of her own songs, and later for a powerful rendition of the fan‑favorite “Kain und Abel.” It was a rare crossover that felt perfectly aligned with the band’s legacy and the night’s sense of occasion. Das Ich are a unique entity to this day, no one else blends musical composition, lyrical philosophy, and stage presence the way they do. This combination has made them a must-see act for nearly four decades now. The name itsef speaks volumes despite being two simple German words: Das or "the" and Ich or "Self" is a Freudian term that means "Ego" a concept that opens the door to a century of psychological introspection and mirrors their lifelong examination of humanity’s collective shadow. It was a great show, Stephan, empahsizing the lyrics with manic expressions and wandering about the stage like an mental patient, all while Bruno looks even nore intimitading but is the more melodic and soothing of the two. I have seen Das Ich many times over the years, and while it is sad to think this may be the last, it was a hell of way to go out. Bruno gave a well deserved shout-out to Das Bunker and Reverend John for being a major promoter of their music and the cheif enabler for their presence here in Los Angeles throughout and for the finale of their career.
