Carach Angren is a Dutch symphonic black metal band known for their elaborate story telling and theatrical live shows. Taking their name from Tolkien's "The Lord of the Rings" novels, Carach Angren is a fortified pass in Mordor leading to the infamous plateau Gorgoroth, and a fittingly grim moniker for the dark tales they conjure.

The band consists of the duo Seregor on vocals (and guitar in the studio), and Ardek on keyboards and orchestration. Joining them on stage is Michiel van der Plicht on drums and Bastiaan Boh on guitars.

Seregor moves maniacally from one side of the stage to the other, motioning and expressing the stories and lyrics with flair and emphasis. While many of their songs are in English they also utilize French, German, and Dutch.

Carach Angren are direct support for Hypocrisy on this tour, which gave them a fairly generous set length, and allowed them to cover material from quite a few of their releases with their latest, "Franckensteina Strataemontanus", getting several songs featured.

Their performance was the height of the night for me, even amongst other amazing bands of this caliber. Their level of theatricality and immersion are top tier, and they sounded really good as well. I highly recommend seeing Carach Angren live if you have a chance, they take their elaborate compositions and stories to another level entirely in person.
