Behemoth - an enormous and dangerous entity of biblical proportions - The Polish blackened death metal band continue to live up to the name as they return to North America headlining a packed bill along side other great artists from around the world.

Marking thirty five years since inception, master-mind Nergal has been bringing his subversive vision to the world. For the last twenty one years, his cohorts have been a remarkably consistent unit: Inferno on drums, Orion on bass, and Seth on guitar.

Behemoth put on a massive threatrical production, complete with elaborate costumes, ritualistic masks, and lighting that shifted from infernal to triumphant creating a sinister yet epic performance.

Never one to shy away from controversy, Nergal's anti-religious stance has sparked trouble in their home country as well as abroad, but the mass of followers here tonight embraced every moment of it.

It was an amazing show and Nergal took a moment to reflect on how appreciative he was. He said their first tour to hit Los Angeles was back in 2002 and they were opening for Deicide and that they have now come full circle to be back with Deicide opening for them.

Their setlist was extensive and packed with audience pleasers. It focused predominantly on the last four albums but they did reach back as far as the turn of the millenium for a few of the old fan-favorites such as Chant for Eschaton 2000.

The crowd was enthusiastic with a constant flow of crowd surfers and a giant mosh pit in the middle of the room. They went espeically wild for the final encore song of the night, "O Father O Satan O Sun!" with hundreds of voices joining in for the chorus.

It was a commanding, triumphant performance from a band that continues to evolve while staying true to their uncompromising identity.
